UK only taking seven-seat Peugeot 5008

Peugeot's first proper foray into the mini-MPV market dominated by the likes of Vauxhall's Zafira, will be only with the seven-seat variant of the new 5008.

There is a five-seater that will be offered in Europe, and that car may come later in the UK, but at least initially the new model will come only in full people carrier form. "There may be a market for a five-seater with a big boot, we're not sure," said Peugeot's whole-life costs manager Bob Grant. "It may come later."

He said there is an obvious differentiation between the smaller, five-seat only, Nissan Qashqai-rivalling 3008 model and its bigger mainstream family mini-MPV 5008 sibling.

Despite the departure from Peugeot's normal numbering policy, with the 5008 being a sibling to the 308 and 3008 and smaller than the numerically inferior 407, Grant didn't think Peugeot has a challenge to explain how the new model fits into the range. "We're more into trim levels and making sure a range is easier to understand," he said.
