Vauxhall launches its cleanest ever car

Date: 19 May 2009

Vauxhall has announced a new version of the Corsa Ecoflex that becomes the firms' lowest-emitting car ever thanks to a CO2 figure of 105g/km.

Only available as a three-door for weight reduction reasons, the new Ecoflex is an improvement on the previous car's 119g/km, though it's still behind Ford's Fiesta Econetic and the Seat Ibiza Ecomotive on 99g/km, while VW's next Polo Bluemotion will be 87g/km when it arrives early next year.

The new Corsa Ecoflex will cost from £11, 295 and has a claimed average fuel figure of 70.6mpg. The firm has achieved the improvements over the previous Ecoflex via changes to the gear ratios, aerodynamics, tyres and ride height, as well as shaving 45kg from the weight.

Power still comes from the 1248cc diesel engine that Vauxhall badges as a 1.3-litre, producing 75PS of power for a 13.5sec 0-60mph time.
