Vauxhall's police Insignia hits the beat

The Vauxhall Insignia will now have good cause to sit on your bumper flashing its lights on motorways around the country.
This is because Vauxhall has unveiled a version of its new upper medium contender in a police uniform. It will come with the option of three engines. The 160PS 2.0-litre diesel is on offer for the cop about town, while a choice of a 2.0-litre 220PS turbo or a 2.8-litre 260PS petrol is available for catching high-speed crooks.
Vauxhall anticipates the estate version will be the most popular cop car, presumably to carry everything from road cones and signs to snarly dogs.
The vehicles will be readied for action in a high tech facility at GM's proving ground in Millbrook, in Bedfordshire. It'll come loaded with crim-catching kit, such as a roof lightbar with 360 degree blue lights, sirens, and a numberplate recognition gadget.
The Insignias are available to order today, with custom specced cars expected to take 8 weeks to arrive. Vauxhall is also keeping a few in stock should a police fleet need a quick replacement after any unfortanate incidents.
