VW reveals 214g/km Bluemotion Touareg

Date: 16 June 2009

Volkswagen has extended its Bluemotion low-CO2 branding to the large 4x4 Touareg model.

Powered by the 225PS 3.0-litre diesel engine, the Bluemotion version of the Touareg has an emissions figure of 219g/km compared with the standard diesel's 244g/km. That's the second lowest figure for a large 4x4 on sale in the UK, level with BMW's X5 and behind only Lexus's 148g/km RX450h hybrid.

The Bluemotion's fuel economy is also improved compared to the standard 3.0-litrre diesel, rising from 30.4mpg to 34.0. the efficiency improvements come as a result of revised aerodynamics, lowered ride height, low rolling resistance tyres and tweaks to the engine set-up.

The work to make the Bluemotion more efficient means a slight price rise compared to the standard version. The entry car costs £34,150 with SE trim at £37,545, both £420 more than the non-Bluemotion alternative.

Standard kit on the entry trim includes cruise control, a leather multifunction steering wheel and 17-inch alloy wheels, while the SE adds dual-zone climate control, touchscreen satellite navigation, heated front seats, leather upholstery, wood interior trim and 18-inch alloys.

ESP and a six-speed automatic gearbox are also standard, and the car will be launched in September
