Warning fleets risk lives by ignoring maintenance policies

Date: 20 November 2009

FSG's Geoffrey Bray

Fleets are failing to adequately check their vehicles for brake and tyre wear as service intervals get longer, according to Fleet Support Group.

The firm said businesses may have established maintenance policies outlined in driver handbooks, but they are "frequently" being ignored by drivers.

"We have many examples of evidence filmed by members of our garage network of employees who have ignored clear signs that maintenance is required on the vehicle they are driving," said FSG boss Geoffrey Bray. "Our garages are discovering bald tyres, worn out brakes and other mechanical problems on an almost daily basis."
