Audi hopes for pre-launch CO2 drop with baby A1

Audi is hoping for an improvement in its new supermini A1's emissions figures before the car goes on sale in the UK towards the end of this year.
The rival to BMW's Mini gets as low as 105g/km for the 1.6-litre diesel, but the German firm is crossing its fingers the car will get below 100g/km, which has future implications in BIK and potentially London congestion charge terms.
"We hope the CO2 will be lower than 100g/km," said Joanne Elliott, product marketing manager for the Audi A1, who also pointed out that the car's 105g/km stacks up against the Mini Cooper D's 104g/km. Mini is though about to launch a sub-100g/km version.
Elliott said there are currently no plans for a lower-emission 'e' model, like the sub-121g/km A4 2.0 TDIe. "We're as efficient as we feel we need to be at this moment in time," she told BusinessCar.
Audi has also announced a new mis-fuelling prevention filler design for the A4, A5 and Q5 TDI diesel models, which means petrol fuel nozzles will no longer fit in the hole. It will be available on all 2011 model-year versions of the three, on sale now, and will also in time be rolled out to other Audi models.
