Bristol considers workplace parking levy

Date: 09 July 2010

Bristol is the latest city facing the implementation of a workplace parking levy. Following a similar scheme in Nottingham, which begins in 2012, Bristol City Council has said it is "keen to look at the workplace levy as part of a wider parking strategy".

Details and charges are yet to be decided; in Nottingham, employers will be charged up to £185 a year per parking space, increasing to £350 annually within five years. Most likely to affect central Bristol workers, the move aims to force drivers on to public transport or bikes.

The council said the fee will be a "per annum per space charge, with money going back to the local authority for reinvestment".
