Council slammed for snow chaos

Date: 04 March 2010

Councils have been slammed for poor conditions on minor roads in the recent bad weather, according to a new AA poll.

Three-quarters of AA members surveyed, around 20,000 people, said councils did a bad job of keeping minor road routes open during this winter's severe snow.

Local main roads received a more positive response with more than 75% saying treatment of these roads was acceptable or better.

Drivers in the south and north west were most disappointed with local authorities attending to minor and major roads.

AA president Edmund King said it would like to see "more resilient winter weather plans for the future".
