E-SAFETY CHALLENGE: Business car drivers may 'consume' technology benefits

Date: 28 July 2010

Delegates attending the E-Safety Challenge were warned about the danger of drivers taking advantage of electronic-safety technology.

Balfour Beatty's MD Stephen Farmer explained: "It's an interesting marriage between the capability of the driver and the capability of the vehicle. We're very much focused on driver risk and I have concerns about drivers consuming the risk [reduction]. I would rather keep the vehicles' capabilities quiet from drivers."

While Balfour Beatty has ESC as standard on its fleet and supports further e-safety technology, Farmer's comments highlighted the need to have business motorists' buy-in to ensure maximum success in road safety.
