Electric Leaf scoops Car of the Year gong

The Nissan Leaf has scooped the 2011 European Car of the Year award - the first electric vehicle to pick up the annual prize in its 47-year history.
The Leaf is currently built in Japan but Nissan said production of the car and its batteries would transfer to its UK plant in Sunderland in early 2013.
The Leaf will cost £23,990 when UK deliveries start in March next year.
In winning the Car of the Year title the Leaf beat off competition from the runner up, Alfa Romeo's Giulietta and the Vauxhall Meriva. which finished in third place.
The remaining contenders were Ford's C-Max and Grand C-Max, the Citroen C3/DS3, the Volvo S60 and V60 and the Dacia Duster.
President of the COTY jury, Hakan Matson, said the award acknowledged the Leaf as "the first electric vehicle that can match conventional cars in many respects".
