Fall in car emissions at ALD

Date: 03 November 2010

Average C02 emissions of new company cars on ALD Automotive's fleet dropped to an all time low of 142.6g/km in the first nine months of the year, according to the contract hire and leasing company.

ALD, which operates a fleet of 60,000 vehicles, said the continued corporate focus on driving down operating costs through increased use of greener models and improved journey management had resulted in a fall from an average figure of 145.5g/km last year and 166.8g/km seven years ago.

Diesel models have accounted for more than four out of five cars ALD has delivered this year, with 18% petrol-powered and the remainder being hybrids.

ALD said 11% of cars on its fleet emit less than 120g/km, which means they qualify for the 10% benefit-in-kind tax rate (13% on diesels). Two thirds fall into the 120 - 160g/km bracket.

With the economic downturn putting cost management into sharper focus, ALD reported a drop in average annual contracted company car mileage from 22,475 miles in 2003 to 17,262 miles from January to September 2011.
