Famous Ford trim faces up to the axe

After more than three decades as an ever-present in British motoring, the trim level best known for its fake wood inserts is being dropped.
Ford's Ghia specification is being ditched from the Galaxy and S-max ranges from April when the facelifted versions go on sale. That leaves it only on the Mondeo, which is due for a refresh later this year. And Ford of Britain's marketing director, Mark Simpson, commented: "When Mondeo is facelifted it would not be a surprise to see Ghia disappear." The trim level was dropped from the Focus range at its last update in late 2007.
Ghia trim first appeared in the early 1970s and proved popular right through the '90s. But during the life of the previous generation Fiesta it accounted for just 3% of sales.
