Fiat to take over Chrysler UK sales

Date: 20 April 2010

Fiat looks set to take control of Chrysler Group's UK sales business, including its fleet operation, as part of a Europe-wide move that would involve around 400 Chrysler employees moving to Fiat.

A Fiat investors' conference on 21 April should set out the plans between the two firms, which have been in development since Fiat took a 20% stake in ailing Chrysler, including Jeep and Dodge, last summer. That share will rise to 35% if targets are met over the next two years.

The Chrysler Group registered just over 3000 cars into fleet last year, a 42.8% fall on 2008's 5393.

There will be shared use of the two firm's existing models: Chrysler is planning an electric version of the Fiat 500, while industry speculation suggests Chrysler could base half of its line-up on Fiat models within four years.
