Date: 15 February 2010

Nissan has unveiled its new crossover vehicle, Juke, which will be built in the UK.

When Juke goes on sale in October, there will be three engines available, one diesel and two 1.6 petrol units.

Top-of-the-range is a turbo-charged petrol engine with direct engine with 189bhp. The second petrol engine generates 116bhp and the most fleet-friendly is a 1.5-litre diesel offering produces 109bhp.

Prices, specification, emissions and fuel consumption have not yet been announced.

Trim and equipment options will follow the existing Visia, Acenta and Tekna lines but Nissan said customers will be able to personalise Jukes with accessories.

Andy Palmer, Nissan senior vice president, product planning, said: "Juke brings a sense of adventure to the car market. It's light, nimble, urban, reactive: qualities designed to grab a younger audience. It offers something entirely different to the traditional B-segment vehicles.

Nissan expects customers to be "urbanite" and male predominantly but predicts one third of buyers will be women.

The carmaker added that Nissan Juke will attract a younger audience than average Nissan customers (under half will be below 40), and sales will come largely from the B-segment and is also expecting to attract C-segment customers, with people trading down to "enjoy something more radical and inspirational".
