Saab has revealed its first all-new model under Dutch firm Spyker's ownership, with the unveiling of the 9-4X small off-roader.

Described as a crossover model in the vein of the Nissan Qashqai, the new Saab will struggle for any fleet appeal at first, as the firm has revealed its focus on the American market as the only launch engine is a 300hp 2.8-litre petrol unit, with no diesels or lower capacity petrol engines suited to Europe even in the plans, according to the company.

The 9-4X will be offered with standard four-wheel drive, and joins the 9-3 and the recently launched 9-5 to create a three-model line-up, and standard equipment is set to include keyless entry, stop-start, rear camera, eight-way powered front seats and a powered tailgate.
