The start point for the best source of fleet information

Date: 17 June 2010

Vauxhall has revealed the first extension to its new Astra line-up, with the Sports Tourer joining the five-door and on sale in the UK by the end of this year.

The Sports Tourer's arrival will also herald the introduction of stop-start technology to the Astra range in both the new estate and the hatchback form. That should put the Ecoflex low-CO2 version of the estate - the 95hp1.3-litre CDTi - below 111g/km for the capital allowance benefits that brings, though it's not thought to be below 100g/km.

The engine line-up will consist of three other diesels as well as the 1.3, and three petrol engines. The load volume is up by 30 litres to 500 with the rear seats in place, which compares with 482 for the Ford Focus and 505 for the Volkswagen Golf. Rear seats down, the Astra wagon offers a completely flat floor and boot space increases to 1550 litres, better than either Golf or Focus.

The Astra range will be filled out further next summer, with the arrival of a three-door model within 12 months, though there are no imminent plans to replace the convertible TwinTop.
