Date: 17 June 2010

Volkswagen has revealed its new Jetta saloon, though it doesn't land in the UK until early 2011.

The range will include a sub-110g/km 105hp 1.6 TDI Bluemotion Technologies version capable of returning 68.0mpg, as well as a 105hp 1.2-litre petrol option with 53.2mpg and 123g/km figures. Other engines will include three petrol alternatives and the 2.0 TDI 140hp diesel.

The new model is 90mm longer than the current version, with rear passenger legroom improving by 67mm, though the boot is 17 litres smaller at 510 litres.

The Jetta has proved popular in the corporate arena, though fleet registrations dropped by 50% last year to 1687, keeping it inside the top 100 fleet models. In 2007, VW registered more than 6000 units into fleet, putting it in the top 50 business cars.

The German brand will announce pricing and specification information nearer to the car's launch in the first quarter of 2011, but it has confirmed air conditioning, six airbags and ESP anti-skid control will be standard across the range.
