Freeze highlights investment need

Date: 08 February 2010

The number of potholes rapidly emerging across the UK's road network highlight the "lack of adequate funding" for roads over many years, according to the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

The organisation warns that increased investment and development of the UK's local and national roads is "urgently required in the interest of both road safety and economic wellbeing."

"Yet again problems with holes in the road have demonstrated the consequences of failing to deal with a problem," said CILT chief executive Steve Agg. "The latest freeze shows that we simply must invest more in the maintenance of our infrastructure - if we don't then for sure the next one will cost us even more."
