Grass is greener in new Lombard deal

Date: 01 February 2010

Lombard Vehicle Management is taking over lawn treatment specialist GreenThumb's 800-strong van fleet and is claiming that it will cut the fleet's fuel use by 15 per cent and its CO2 emissions by a quarter.

Lombard is using whole life cost analysis and will run GreenThumb's vehicles on a contract hire basis, predominantly over three years and 45,000 miles.

It is bringing in Volkswagen Caddy Maxi 1.9TDi vans, and expects to have some 230 at work by the end of this year.

"The whole-life cost approach demonstrated that we could make substantial savings yet actually improve our fleet operation," said GreenThumb director David Giffiths.

Claimed to be the largest business of its type in Britain, GreenThumb uses 190 branches throughout the country. It was formed in 1985.

The fleet deal was overseen by Rachel Moxey, Lombard's key fleet manager for Cheshire and North Wales, with input from its van sales operation.
