Hitachi Capital adds electric vehicles to internal fleet

Date: 27 October 2010

Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions has stepped up its commitment to greener motoring by adding electric vehicles to its fleet.

The company will fit charging points at its offices in Newbury and Trowbridge to enable staff to use EVs for commutes between sites and to customers' offices that are either within battery range or have their own charging facilities.

Hitachi has initially ordered two Nissan Leafs and will follow this by taking on a third electric model from a different manufacturer for comparison purposes.

As well as being available to its own workforce, Hitachi said it would encourage customers to test drive the vehicles and use the charging points for their own electric vehicles.

The company said it would also support customers in their own EV trials by assisting them with subsidised funding options for co-branded vehicles.

Chief executive Simon Oliphant said: "If we are to encourage our customers to run more environmentally-efficient fleets we should be practising what we preach. It also means our advice will be based on actual practice rather than theory."
