Manheim ups the online auction game

Manheim is to launch a revamped website and new online sales offering later this year, including an Ebay-style 'buy now' feature to give fleets and leasing firms more options of vehicle disposal channels.
"We're trying to bring all buyers and cars into one place," said MD Mike Pilkington. "We're not driving them down the online route, we're giving a choice of sales channels for disposal." The move will bring Manheim's VRS operation into the fold, and the channel will be rebranded. Customers will be able to search for a vehicle through one channel, such as traditional auction hall stock, and suitable vehicles available through all sales channels will show up. Fleets won't be able to list cars under the 'buy now' facility as well as in forthcoming auction catalogues, but they could, for example, be advertised for immediate purchase for a few days before transferring to a suitable auction.
