May climb for fleet registrations

Date: 04 June 2010

The fleet market enjoyed a strong May as it recovered versus retail share off the back of the Government's scrappage scheme ending.

In May fleet registrations were 16.0% up on the same month in 2009 at 74,786, compared with an overall market up 13.5% and an 11.3% rise in retail registrations. That meant the fleet market's share of registrations was up to 48.8% in May, compared to 45.9% over the first five months of 2010.

Ford led Vauxhall in the manufacturer's chart, though the latter enjoyed a 22.0% growth versus Ford's 5.5% fall in May, with VW, Peugeot and BMW keeping Audi out of the top five. Renault's return was emphasised by a 295.15 increase in registrations, with all models bar Kangoo and Koleos recording growth of at least 85% in the fleet sector.

Ford grabbed top spot in the model chart too, with the Focus comfortably ahead of Vauxhall's Astra, with the VW Golf making it three different manufacturers filling out the top three spots before the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa finished the top five.
