Mercedes launches fixed-price servicing nationwide

Date: 05 March 2010

Mercedes-Benz is to launch fixed-price servicing across the country for its A-, B-, C- and E-class model line-ups.

The reason for the move is both to stave off a future drop in servicing volume as a result of declining new car sales last year, and to address the issue of increased competition from the independent sector.

"There is still the perception that while people can afford to buy or lease a Mercedes-Benz, you might not be able to afford to run one," Mercedes UK boss Wilfred Steffen told BusinessCar. "While this is not true, this move will bring the topic home." Steffen also said he hopes to extend the fixed-price status to "a couple" of standard repair items. "It's a very attractive proposition to the fleet market and to fleet managers," he said.

Mercedes is also looking to offer winter tyres as part of its in-house leasing offer. The tyres, recognised as essential in the winter months across mainland Europe but not a culture in the UK, give better grip in cold and wet conditions, as well as snow.

Those fleets on a two- or three-year Mercedes lease contract would be offered the bolt-on. Steffen said he's looking to implement it in the UK by the middle of the year in order to have fleets signed up before next winter. The firm is also looking into whether there could be a "preferred rate" from insurers if cars are fitted with more appropriate tyres.
