Michelin appoints Fleet Support Group

Date: 29 November 2010

Tyre manufacturer Michelin has outsourced the management of its 340-strong fleet to Fleet Support Group following the decision of in-house fleet boss John Stack to retire.

The main services FSG will provide to Michelin are fleet management through Fleetmaster, maintenance management through ServiceMaster, accident management through CrashMaster and short term vehicle hire through HireMaster.

Michelin's fleet consists of 230 company cars and 110 vans. Taking into account multi-user vans and cash for car drivers as well as occasional drivers, the Stoke-on-Trent-based business employs 540 business drivers.

Stack said the decision to bring in FSG was "in line with Michelin's policy to outsource all non-core business activity to expert providers".

Michelin claims to have halved its road crash rate in the last five years and has reported a reduction in accident damage costs of 46% - leading to indirect savings on vehicle hire and driver time.

The company is to issue Permits to Drive to its at-work drivers under FSG's web-enabled Riskmaster scheme, which manages vehicles, drivers and journeys to help employees reduce their risk exposure.
