No three-door for new Focus

Date: 02 December 2010

Ford is not planning a three-door version of the new-generation Focus when it launches early next year, paving the way for a more coupe-like model with a different badge.

The current three-door Focus is similar in roofline and bodyshape to the five-door, unlike Vauxhall's Astra Sporthatch, which is considerably more sporty than the more practical five-door, and which has enjoyed more successful than Ford's three-door.

"The five-door is more coupe-like than the previous car, and people finding it too coupe-like can go for the five-Seat C-max," said Ford UK MD Nigel Sharp. He also said Ford has confirmed there will be seven body styles spun off the Focus platform, three of which haven't been confirmed yet, and it's likely that one will be a coupe-styled variant.
