Nothing smart in iQ recall

Date: 11 November 2010

Toyota is recalling around 12,000 iQ models in the latest recall saga to hit the Japanese brand this year.

Versions of the city car built between 11 September 2008 and 22 October 2010 are affected by an issue with the electric power steering system that requires a software modification to rectify. When driving over rumble strips, signals received by the steering system could be incorrectly interpreted by the control unit, meaning the driver would need to apply extra steering effort. The rectification takes around two hours.

Toyota was embroiled in two high-profile recalls early this year involving most of its range, and prestige brand Lexus has also suffered during 2010.
