Renault launches greenest car ever

Date: 01 June 2010

The Renault Clio will have a 90g/km model in spring

Renault has launched its greenest car yet, a 98g/km CO2 Clio, priced from £12,690.

The 1.5-litre dCi 86 Eco2 version of the three-door Extreme and five-door Expression has official figures of 76.3mpg.

Better aerodynamics, revised engine mapping, taller gearing and reduced rolling resistance tyres have helped reduce the CO2 by 17g/km and improve economy by 19% (12.1mpg).

The car costs the same as the existing dCi 86 engine, which emits 115g/km.

As a sub-100g/km model, the car has zero vehicle excise duty, 100% capital write-down allowance and 13% benefit-in-kind tax banding.

Its launch is ahead of Renault's introduction of its ZE electric vehicles next year.

Renault said that while it moves forward with zero-emission vehicles, it is still "working to reduce the environmental impact of its current range".
