Revised 6-series soft top coming next year

Date: 22 November 2010

BMW is to launch its revised 6-series convertible in the UK on 26 March 2011.

The brand claims its latest soft top follows in a proud tradition of convertibles stretching back to the 1930s and insists the new model holds its own in terms of performance as well as looks.

At launch the car will be available with two turbocharged petrol engines, the 650i and 640i.

A diesel engine is expected to be introduced towards the end of next year.

The 4.4-litre eight cylinder unit in the 650i develops 407hp and peak torque of 600nm. BMW says the 650i sprints from 0-62 in five seconds onto an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. It claims fuel consumption on the combined cycle is a relatively modest 26.4mpg with CO2 emissions of 249g/km.

The 3.0-litre, six-cylinder 640i develops 320hp and maximum torque of 450nm with 0-62mph reached in 5.7 seconds. Claimed fuel consumption is 35.8mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 output of 185g/km.

Both versions come with brake energy regeneration and electric power steering and are offered with features such as night vision with pedestrian recognition, parking assist, lane change warning system and speed limit display.
