The start point for the best source of fleet information

'Traffic light' driver monitoring launched

Date: 08 November 2010   |   Author:

Telematics provider Trimble MRM is launching a new traffic light-based system that will allow fleet managers to monitor the behaviour of their drivers from their desk. The Driver Safety system incorporates audible beeps and red, amber and green lights in the cabin that are also relayed back to managers in real time to illustrate how their employees are driving.

Driving too fast, braking too harshly, accelerating quickly and cornering too severely will all be flagged up, and the system can record specific violations and average driving events over distance and time to form a safety score.

Trimble also claims fitting the system could reduce insurance premiums. "Insurance companies like businesses which demonstrate accountability," said Trimble boss Andy Yeoman. "Driver Safety is about being accountable."

The firm is offering chief executives or senior management the chance to sample the Driver Safety system in their own vehicle as part of a campaign with charity Brake's Fleet Safety Forum.
