Vauxhall's Ampera gets public sector interest

Date: 09 July 2010

Vauxhall Ampera

Vauxhall has revealed that its plug-in electric vehicle Ampera has received positive feedback from corporate customers. Although the car is not due on sale in the UK until February 2012, it has already attracted interest, particularly from public sector areas, the emergency services and the Royal household.

The Ampera has the ability to cover 40 miles on electric power, then a 1.4-litre petrol engine kicks in, acting as a generator, which gives it another 310-mile range. Speaking about this extended range, the brand's corporate boss, Steve Catlin, said: "The infrastructure isn't there at the moment for a purely electric vehicle so there has to be a solution in the interim period."

Catlin added that the car "is a headstart on competition just from styling", and that early RV predictions were strong thanks to the battery being warrantied for 150,000 miles or 10 years.
