VW reveals Passat prices for January launch

Date: 20 October 2010

The new VW Passat

Volkswagen has announced prices and opened the order book for the seventh generation Passat, which it unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last month.

On the road prices start from £18,470 for the saloon and £19,745 for the estate.

All diesel engines in the line-up now come under the Bluemotion Technology banner and are equipped with battery regeneration and stop/start systems as standard.

The entry-level 1.6-litre TDI 105hp has claimed combined cycle figures of 65.7mpg and 114g/km CO2. For the first time a six speed manual gearbox is fitted to this engine.

VW said the new BlueMotion model, on sale early next year, would return 68.8mpg and emit 109g/km CO2.

The new Passat range is available in three trim levels - S, SE and Sport. Additional kit over the outgoing model includes an iPod interface and leather multifunction steering wheel for the S model.

The SE gains an eight speaker digital radio, Bluetooth connectivity and the new driver fatigue detection system. The range topping new Sport features RNS 315 touchscreen SatNav.

The manufacturer expects the SE 2.0-litre 140hp to be the best seller and forecasts the estate outselling the saloon for the first time, accounting for about 53% of sales.

Three TSI petrol engines are offered, with 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0-litre powertrains and two oil burners, with 1.6 and 2.0-litre TDI units, are available.

Prices range from £18,470 to £26,995 for the Estate Sport 2.0-litre 170hp TDI with DSG and BlueMotion Technology.
