VW Sharan to shake-up MPV market

Date: 11 March 2010

Volkswagen has unveiled its second-generation Sharan MPV, designed to replace one of the oldest models still on sale.

The new Sharan, replacing a model first launched in 1997, will this time come with sliding rear doors to ease access in tight spaces as well as creating a larger opening, when it arrives in November. It launches with a range of two petrol and two diesel engines, the most fleet-frugal of which is the 2.0 TDI 140hp diesel that has CO2 emissions of 143g/km and an average economy figure of 52.3mpg.

The new model is also good news for VW subsidiary Seat, which is expecting a replacement for the Alhambra, sister car to the Sharan, by the end of this year.
