VW unveils new Caddy and Caddy Maxi

Date: 27 July 2010

Volkswagen has unveiled its new Caddy and Caddy Maxi vans, due to arrive in the UK in November.

The carmaker said, after six years and sales of nearly 800,000 units of the outgoing model, the new-generation Caddy range will be more economical to run, with more safety features, better quality and refinement, plus improved environmental credentials.

There are four new diesel engines which are up to 13% more fuel-efficient, said VW. This includes two 1.6-litre TDI engines with 75hp and 102hp, plus two 2.0-litre TDI units with 110hp and 140hp. The Caddy also has VW's latest seven-speed DGG gearbox and 4Motion four-wheel drive.

BlueMotion Technology models will be available in the 1.6-litre van and passenger-carrying models. These use start/stop and battery regeneration systems to help achieve 129 g/km CO2 and 57mpg, giving a potential range of up to 735 miles on one tank of fuel.

Caddys will also have ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) standard on every model. Other new safety features include daytime running function for the headlights and automatic activation of the hazard lights under emergency braking.

The seven-seat Caddy Maxi Life model will be renamed the Caddy Maxi MPV.

Full details of prices and specifications are expected next month.
