WPL case dropped

Date: 22 January 2010

The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce has ended its legal challenge to Nottingham's controversial Workplace Parking Levy.

The local chamber of commerce had been threatening legal action to try and halt the plan, but has now accepted that while it felt it had a good case, it was not necessarily strong enough to win. The organisation is, though, continuing to voice its opposition to the system, which will become active in April 2012 with a £250 fee for each space supplied for workers in office car parks with at least 10 spots. The fee will rise to £350 by 2014, with the money being used to improve the city's public transport.
