BUDGET 2011: VED rises in line with inflation

Date: 23 March 2011

Vehicle Excise Duty will rise from 1 April 2011 for all cars emitting more than 120g/km.

Chancellor George Osborne confirmed that the rise, in line with inflation, would mean £5 per year for vehicles emitting 121g/km-150g/km, with £10 per year on the road tax of cars between 151g/km-200g/km.

Those cars below 225g/km will be billed at an extra £15, while it's £20 and £25 increases respectively for the two highest bands.

First year VED is also up for cars over 130g/km, with everything below that level still VED-exempt in the first year. There are £5 rises for models under 151g/km, rising steadily up to a £50 per year rise for cars over 255g/km, taking them to £1000 in their first year.
