BVRLA appoints new chairman

Date: 24 May 2011

The BVRLA has appointed Hertz UK boss Neil Cunningham as its new chairman after Leaseplan's Kevin McNally completed his two-year stint in the role.

Cunningham has more than 25 years experience of the rental industry in mainland Europe and the UK, covering both cars and commercial vehicles.

Upon taking up his position Cunningham said: "We must continue to lobby the Government and its motoring agencies to reduce the amount of bureaucracy and paperwork associated with owning and operating fleets.

He also acknowledged the association's previous difficulties in its working relationships with manufacturers and vowed to address these.

"I am keen that we build on our relationships with manufacturers. There have been some tensions in recent times but we can work through these and develop a longer-term, proactive relationship between our two industries," he said.

The BVRLA has also appointed Hitachi Capital's Simon Oliphant as chairman of the Leasing and Fleet Management Committee and Martin Brown of Fleet Alliance as chairman of the Leasing Broker Committee. They replace David Brennan of Leasplan and Mike Lloyd of Central Contracts respectively.
