Carillion cuts emissions

Date: 07 February 2011

Carillion Fleet Management aims to have halved its fleet emissions in the four years to 2012 by encouraging staff to choose greener company cars.

The company, which manages 3000 vehicles on its internal fleet, offers drivers financial incentives if they switch to one of its "Green Star Car" models, identified as having the lowest CO2 emissions in their class.

As well as cutting emissions, Carillion says the policy also enables drivers to reduce their fuel costs and Benefit in Kind tax bills.

Managing director Bob Dunnett said: "It's all part of our efforts to encourage drivers to think more about the costs of running a car while still providing a vehicle that fits with our health and safety offering."

Drivers are offered either a Ford or Vauxhall model, with a wider choice for user choosers.

Dunnett added: "Almost all our vehicles are below 160g/km but we are encouraging drivers to opt for sub 110, 120 and 130g/km vehicles."
