Citroen to launch four-wheel-drive C4

Date: 13 October 2011

Citroen will persist in the compact SUV sector, by launching the C4 Aircross in the second half of next year, maintaining its relationship with Mitsubishi, whose ASX provides the platform for this two and four-wheel-drive model.

Peugeot, the third member of the venture, is unlikely to import its version, badged 4008, into the UK because of the all-wheel-drive capability of the 3008 Hybrid4 and the outgoing 4007's slow sales.

The Aircross's styling aims to maintain design cues with the rest of the C4 range and uses 1.6-litre 110hp and 1.8-litre 150hp HDi diesel engines. Five-speed manual or CVT automatic transmissions will be offered. Although Citroen claims the Aircross, replacing the C-Crosser, has "front running segment" CO2 ratings, no figures are available yet.
