CV Show organisers welcome attendance figures

Date: 23 May 2011

The organisers of this year's Commercial Vehicle Show and Workshop say they are pleased with attendance figures for the event, which took place at the Birmingham NEC from 12-14 April, despite numbers falling to just over half of those recorded in 2008, the last time the exhibition was held full-size.Image The show was cancelled in 2009 and returned as the scaled down CV Operators' Show in 2010, which attracted 9452 visitors.

Pending a final audit by ABC, the number of visitors has been confirmed as 16,137, with 15,403 coming from the UK and 734 from overseas.

In 2008 more than 28,000 visitors went to the show, which covered five halls as opposed to this year's two.

Geoff Dunning, who heads up the Road Haulage Association, one of the show's three owners alongside the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), said: "Based on last year's show the forecast attendance for this year was between 12,000 and 15,000 so to have over 16,000 visitors is tremendous news."

Highlights of the show this year included UK debuts for two new pick-ups, the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok, a first domestic showing for Nissan's NV400 and a chance to see Mercedes' electric van, the Vito E-Cell.

All the major manufacturers, apart from Vauxhall and Toyota attended the event.
