Dacia: No discounts for fleets

Date: 12 October 2011   |   Author:

Fleets have been warned that they won't be offered discounts on the price of Dacia models when Renault's budget brand launches into the UK in January 2013.

"There will be no discounts when we sell - we don't sell to [big] fleets," said Renault's product-planning boss Beatrice Foucher. "It's very difficult to make money in fleets - it's good for volume."

The UK line-up will be the lower medium Sanderos and the Duster SUV, and the brand is aiming mainly at the private market, although it's not ruling out corporate business entirely. "At the right price we will, if fleets accept to have no rebates. We need to make a profit," said Foucher, highlighting the difference in attitude to fleet between Renault and Dacia.

"For Renault we need to keep market share - when there is no profit at all it's difficult to sell to fleets but it's very difficult trying to keep market share. It's more and more difficult to make a profit in Europe."

Foucher said Dacia's key attributes are value, reliability and trouble-free motoring. The brand has been on-sale in mainland Europe for a number of years, and in Germany, Europe's biggest market, holds a 3% market share, matching that of Renault.
