Early 508 sales exceed targets

Date: 01 June 2011

Peugeot has surpassed early sales expectations for its new upper medium 508, with 1000 units sold in March compared with the conservative estimate of 100.

By the time models appeared in showrooms at the end of April, 1700 orders had been taken. Fleet has accounted for 85% of this volume, a figure expected to continue. The French carmaker predicts 6000 508s will be sold in 2011, rising to 8000 next year.

While bigger fleet players are already being targeted, local business opportunities are starting to arise as dealerships receive 508 deliveries, said a spokesman.

The brand is also introducing a facelifted 308 with 98g/km CO2 this month, followed by the diesel 3008 Hybrid4 arriving in November, which is expected to be "huge" in fleet. A 508 hybrid equivalent is due in spring 2012.
