Euro5 compliance for Defender

Date: 24 August 2011

Land Rover is giving its Defender a new 2.2-litre diesel engine in November in a move to meet Euro5 emissions legislation that all commercial vehicles must adhere to by the end of 2011. Passenger cars had to comply by the end of 2010 but the Defender's official status as a commercial vehicle gave it another 12 months.

The 2.2 diesel replaces the current 2.4, and offers identical power, economy and emissions figures to its predecessor. Land Rover claims to have also improved refinement thanks to a new engine cover.

The firm is also introducing two new options packs. The £1650 comfort pack brings air conditioning, CD player, electric windows and remote central locking, while the £1500 off-road pack adds ABS, heavy duty wheel rims with off-road tyres, toe ball and under-ride protection bar.
