EV try-before-you-buy launched by Europcar

Date: 16 November 2011

Europcar is offering corporate drivers the opportunity to evaluate electric Peugeot Ions cars through a one-day rental scheme from five locations in south-eastern England, including three major airports.

The initiative involves rentals from Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports plus King's Cross station and Marble Arch in London, and was described by Europcar Group UK's managing director Ken McCall as: "a great way for drivers to put electric to the test without committing to outright purchase."

There are 15 Ions available across five sites and the daily rental charge is circa £40.

Europcar claimed demand for electric vehicles to rent is "really starting to pick up" for reasons of environmental and cost advantages, and they are "already immensely popular with many of our business customers". The Peugeot Ions can only be hired for one day and returned to the five locations to ensure they are "properly charged".
