Extended-range Vauxhall Ampera under £30k

Date: 05 January 2011

Vauxhall Ampera

Vauxhall has announced that its extended range electric vehicle, the Ampera, will cost less than £30,000 provided the Government's Plug-In car grant is still on offer.

The Ampera will cost £33,995 when it goes on sale in February 2012 and benefits from no London congestion charge, no VED and a 5% BIK banding. It will also be eligible for the £5000 Government EV subsidy if it is still being offered, with a review of the grant's future due in early 2012.

The carmaker said the car is the "only real-world electric car solution for a family". It has a 50-mile battery range which can extend a further 310 miles due to a generator producing electricity on board.

Interested customers can pre-order an Ampera for a £150 refundable reservation fee, with no commitment to purchase, which also gives access to events in the build up to the car's launch.
