FIRST PICTURES: New BMW 3-series

BMW has revealed its sixth generation of its 3-series, the company's core business car model.
Arriving in the UK in February, the model line-up will again feature a 109g/km 320dEfficient Dynamics saloon model as the most efficient in the range, matching the performance of the current model, though the standard 320d will come in at 120g/km and 62.8mpg. The other two engines will be the 149gkm 2.0-litre 328i, replacing both the 325i and 330i engines from the previous 3-series, and the range-topping 306hp 335i.
The two 320d models will be priced identically, starting from £28,080, which is a £180 price increase for the 163hp 68.9mpg Efficient Dynamics model, and a £1535 rise for the 184hp 62.8mpg standard 320d. BMW will launch an additional four engines a month after the car's February launch, manual and automatic versions of the 116hp 316d and the 143hp 318d, including a 318d automatic at 118g/km, one of eight options below 120g/km by the end of March 2012. A 320i will also arrive at the same time.
Trim levels increase, with a choice of six on offer, and the German brand claims the new car is "the most logical business proposition" thanks to the efficiency improvements in a car claimed to be larger and more spacious, yet lighter, and with "big steps forward in style, quality, comfort and specification for only a minima price increase".
All versions of the new 3-series will feature start-stop and the Driver Performance Control system that switches between the driving modes of Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and, in the case of the Sport models, Sport+ mode.
