Fleet key to Skoda five-year plan

Date: 14 April 2011   |   Author: Tristan Young

Skoda is planning to double its sales in the next five years with fleet and new products key to this growth, according to managing director Robert Hazelwood.

"We'll be a seven-car brand by mid-next year with the addition of a city car below the Fabia and a car that will sit between the Fabia and the Octavia," said Hazelwood.

"We're looking to grow our overall sales from roughly 41,500 last year to 80,000 a year in the next five years.

"Of our sales last year, between 16-17,000 were fleet. Within the five-year plan 30,000 will be fleet."

Skoda revealed a concept car at the Geneva motor show badged Vision D, which could hint at how the new car between the Octavia and Fabia could look. The car is more in proportion with a Ford Focus than the current Octavia, which sits between the traditional small family car and the large family car sizes.

According to Hazelwood, the new city car will be available in three- and five-door formats. The city car will be the first three-door car from Skoda since the previous generation Fabia.

"The city car will be first, then we'll launch the car between the Fabia and Octavia. Then there will be a new Octavia and a facelifted Superb," he added.
