Government to consult on NI integration

Date: 27 July 2011

The Government is to consult with interested parties on its proposal to integrate the operation of income tax and National Insurance contributions announced in the Budget earlier this year. Responses will inform the proposals for reform, on which the Government will consult in the autumn.

It believes that greater integration of income tax and NI "has the potential to remove economic distortions, reduce burdens on business and improve fairness for individual earners".

"This is a first step in our consideration of this matter and we would like to hear from businesses and other stakeholders before we move onto further consultation later in the year,' said a spokesman.

Evidence to support the move can be sent to incometaxnics.simplification@hmtreasury.gsi.gov.uk.
