Kia reveals new Rio

Kia has released the first pictures of its next generation Rio supermini, which will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show alongside the new Picanto city car.

Kia said the design of the forthcoming Rio brought it in line with the rest of its model range.

On sale in the UK from September, the new Rio will be available both in five-door and three-door modes. The manufacturer will announce pricing and specification details nearer to the launch date.

The new model is 70mm longer than its predecessor at 2570mm and cargo capacity for the hatchback will be 292 litres. The new Rio is also longer, lower and wider than the model it replaces.

Engines will include a frugal 1.1-litre diesel unit with 70hp and CO2 emissions of 85g/km, A new 1.2-litre turbo petrol GDI will also be available from next year.

Since its launch in 2005, UK sales of the current Rio total 52,626 units.
