Mazda introduces new fleet trim

Date: 26 August 2011   |   Author:

Mazda is hoping that its new Business Line trim level for the upper medium 6 hatchback will be "a real contributor" to the firm's growth plans.

Coming later in the year than new fleet boss Steve Jelliss had originally hoped, the fleet-specific £18,130 Business Line model comes with TomTom satellite navigation, Bluetooth and 17-inch alloys as standard, saving drivers from having to add options and raise the P11D price as a result. Mazda is still looking to sell 500 units before the end of the year, and around 1000 in a full year. "I think it can be a real contributor, it's timely in the fleet arena because it ticks the usual fun-to-drive box from Mazda's point of view but has specific fleet appeal relative to BIK."

Jelliss refused to rule out extending the Business Line branding to other Mazda models. "The principle is logical to the Mazda 3 as well but we'll see how the 6 goes," he said. "In principle the same can apply but we need to look at the package and the right place to pitch it. We won't be extending it at the moment, there's a degree of toe-in-the-water."

"It works well with the 6," continued Jelliss. "It comes pretty well specced and will be well received, and on a limited basis has already been well received by those people that have been exposed to it."

Jelliss also said Mazda is looking to capitalise on its good product availability at a time where other manufacturers are struggling to bring down lead times. "The advantage we have over other manufacturers is that our availability is good, we were back to full production in June [after the Japanese earthquake] and in the current marketplace we are in a better position than some to supply cars," he declared. "We can legitimately promote our availability and there is evidence elsewhere it's not so easy to get product."
