Mazda targets fleets with green technology

Date: 11 October 2011

Mazda fleet and remarketing boss Steve Jellis has claimed the carmaker's new environmentally targeted Skyactiv Technology, which debuts on the new CX-5 compact crossover SUV, will build on the brand's appeal to fleets that has already been enhanced by the Mazda6 Businessline.

"Skyactiv Technology will open new corporate opportunities for Mazda just as the recent addition of our fleet-specific Mazda6 Business line model has done," Jellis said.

The manufacturer has claimed the new technology will deliver a 30% improvement in fuel economy to its line-up by 2015 compared to 2008 levels as well as a 23% cut in CO2 emissions and demonstrates efficiency can be significantly improved without resorting to electric or hybrid technologies.

The 2.2 150hp 2WD Skyactiv-d, which goes on sale in 2012, has claimed CO2 output of 119g/km and fuel consumption of 62,8mpg on the combined cycle.

Jellis said: "The Mazda CX-5 heralds the introduction of a portfolio of breakthrough technologies coupled with the gradual introduction of devices such as i-stop (Smart Idling Stop System) which will provide fleets and company car drivers with a winning combination of wallet-friendly motoring, driving pleasure and excellent environmental and safety performance."
